About Chofu city


In 1955 Chofu town and Jindai town gathered and became Chofu city.
The origin of the name "Chofu" is very old. In 7th century new tax systems called So-Yo-Cho were introduced. Cho was the tax paid by special products and people here paid cloth (Fu means cloth in Japanese). So this place was called Chofu.
